Is there a tool or utility to check/fix boot up configuration?

Lately, a few of my Fedora systems have failed somehow. The proximate cause is that they are no longer configured correctly. In this question it has lost the compulsion to start gnome. Another computer—a desktop Fedora 24 system—starts gnome, but is unresponsive to mouse and keyboard actions. Ctrl+Alt+F2 enables a console text session to snoop around, but I don't see anything unusual.

Is there a wiki-recipe or utility which can identify Fedora misconfiguration elements?

Given the difficulty of getting these systems to work, I really don't want to reinstall Fedora.

I am also interested on comparing existing installation with would-be-fresh one. Got file corruption and rpm -Vacould help a bit https://ask.fedoraproject.org/en/ques...
