I am using Fedora28.
I have a process named "gnome-software" which consumes up to 100% CPU.
I ran dnf update and the process disappeared. But the next day it again consumes about 100% CPU.
Is it normal? If not, what can I do with it?

EDIT:
I checked /var/log/messages for gnome-software, gnome-setting, dconf and found nothing suspicious (basically the messages I found were logged month ago).
I again ran dnf update and again it is gone.

This process was automatically downloading the updates. It didn't install them but just wanted your system to have them in a quick access.
This is very easy to disable. Just run dconf write /org/gnome/software/download-updates false in a terminal or use the GUI:

  • Open dconf Editor
  • Go to org > gnome > software
  • Uncheck download updates
  • Reboot your computer
