Following my thread at https://ask.fedoraproject.org/en/ques... where I understood that it was not a good idea to upgrade from F24 to F28, I did a new fresh install of F29. I added xfce env as well as kde, I always get a command line instead of the login GUI interface. when logging as root, issue the command startx

graphical interface works fine (of course I did systemctl set-default = graphical.target).

When I log on command line with my user not root issue "'startx", it fails and it goes back to command line It was recommended on that thread that I issue systemctl enable GDM i id, since that time, rebooting starts and a black screen with 3 small sequares displayed and nothing happens. What is going wrong and how can I at least go back to command line?

Thanks

This won't solve your problem, but can you use the command key and F2 to open up the console, then report any errors? Do you have a graphics card installed?
