I am running fedora 29 on Dell Vostro 3468 with gstreamer1-libav along with ffmpeg installed. Whenever I play HD/Full HD/4K videos they lag a bit. Many times audio is not in sync with video. Also while seeking videos forward or backwards there is quite a lag. I am using VLC player becuase gnome default player doesn't have h.264 codec. I also tried smplayer but smplayer lags much more than vlc. Earlier in windows 10 video playback was seamless with fordwards and backwards seeking even in 4K videos. How to fix this?

The "gstreamer1-libav" is different in UnitedRPMs (compiled with a full ffmpeg); is a option. You can enable the repository reading the steps, about how to install the repository. There are a lot of fools who underestimate the project; But they are complete ignoramuses.

su

dnf clean all && dnf -y update

The above lines will to update your packages... (vlc...)

go to rpmfusion, install there two repos (free is enough)

dnf install mpv

afterwards. Do not use gnome-mpv .. everything > 1920x will have terrible performance whatever cpu you have. mpv does not have a UI, but it outperforms anything and that ffmpeg is not a videoplaybacktool stands for itself ;)

If your problem persists, return here.

I figured the problem. The problem is with video files other than .mp4. It's a bug. The decoder is not able to decode is at fast speed. When converted to mp4 problems are resolved. Where to report this bug?

I tried mpv on .ts files. It's faster but still lags. Where to report bugs in Fedora? Pot Player on Windows didn't had any issues with .ts files.
