Update VirtualBox 5.2 to 6.0 on Fedora 29

I recently installed VirtualBox 5.2 using command sudo dnf install VirtualBox in the terminal because when the last time I installed using rpm file it didn't work and had to reinstall Fedora again. Now when I ran I came to know old version is installed from RPMFusion repository. How to update v5.2 to v6.0? RPMFusion contains v6.0 but don't know why old version got installed. I tried sudo dnf update but it didn't found any updates. When I use sudo dnf update VirtualBox-6.0 it finds it (137 MB Downlaod)but then says conflict with VirtualBox 5.2 and doesn't proceed. I tried using this- sudo dnf install Downloads/VirtualBox-6.0.rpm, this also failed. Then I tried sudo rpm -ivh Downloads/VirtualBox-6.0.rpm but it also failed. Any ideas how to update v5.2 to v6.0?

Virtual Box can be installed directly from the web page.

Remove all the stuff you have installed before...VirtualBox-server is from rpmfusion, there is no need for that. Don't mix VBox packages from different sources. Go either with the rpmfusion one, or the Oracle one.

Did you see `dnf list 'VirtualBox*' to see what is available from the different sources?

The VirtualBox installs in 2 parts: VirtualBox Client and VirtualBox Server. When u give sudo dnf remove VirtualBox command it only removes client leaving behind the server that conflicts with next install. So, Here's the solution I got after banging my head for 3 days. sudo dnf remove VirtualBox sudo dnf remove VirtualBox VirtualBox-server sudo dnf clean all sudo rpm -ivh VirtualBox.rpm

Why do you install the rpm directly? A better solution would be to add the virtualbox.repo and then sudo dnf update && sudo dnf install VirtualBox-6.0.

VirtualBox 6.0 is not yet in Fedora 29. Either you wait or you install it directly via the virtualbox repo.

Here you find a good tutorial: https://www.if-not-true-then-false.co...

But first you have to remove VirtualBox 5.2 completely.

Direct install via RPM file is broke. After installation through rpm file last it didn't worked on fedora 28. So this time I installed via rpmfusion. Are there any major changes between the versions?

VirtualBox 6 is in Oracles repository for F29.

VirtualBox version 6.0.4-1.fc30 is available from RpmFustion rawhide, that is, you will get when upgrading to fc30 when that becomes available end of April this year.

Again, VirtualBox-6.0 is in Oracle's repository for F29, see here: http://download.virtualbox.org/virtua...

VirtualBox 6 is in Oracles repository for F29!

Simply uninstall VirtualBox-5.x (use <tab> to auto complete packagename in dnf) and then install VirtualBox 6: sudo dnf install VirtualBox-6.0 <tab>. (Or use dnf list VirtualBox to find out the exact package name).

The above instructions only work when you have Oracles repo set up.

See http://download.virtualbox.org/virtua... There is an rpm that you can install using dnf.

Either download the rpm and then install it using dnf, or set up the .repo from virtualbox and then do

sudo dnf install VirtualBox-6.0

Btw, it's all documented here: https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Linux...
