hi open source engineers,

there is no proper solution for controlling brightness for many laptops running fedora OS. do you have any common solution or we have to just uninstall the OS itself.

Try this:

sudo yum install xbacklight
xbacklight -set 90

Edit: It is possible to resolve this issue in Fedora 15 by adding acpi_backlight=vendor acpi_osi=Linux kernel options in the grub.conf. F16 and F17 may not have a workaround. See bug 753012 for more info.

Which desktop are your using? Gnome, KDE, XFCE, etc.

This bug has been round since Fedora15. The worst variant is when the backlight is turned completely off during kernel loading and you never see a login screen let alone a desktop.

you can install an extension from dim desktop 70. It doesn't allow you to set brightness to any level but you can dim your screen down.

It works on both Desktops and Laptops.
