Hello, I cannot seem to play a DVD in Fedora 18. I've installed Fedora utils, gstreamer, etc. When I pop the DVD in, nothing happens. If I go into Videos or VLC player, neither can recognize the DVD.

I am also having trouble with sound in Fedora 18. I have just installed libdvdcss and DVDs play fine in video, but there is no audio.

What can I do?

libdvdcss which you need for commercial DVDs , is not rpmfusion http://rpmfusion.org/FAQ#How_can_I_install_libdvdcss.3F

You can install it directly from livna

rpm -Uvh http://rpm.livna.org/repo/18/x86_64/libdvdcss-1.2.12-1.fc17.remi.x86_64.rpm

or

rpm -Uvh http://rpm.livna.org/repo/18/i386/libdvdcss-1.2.12-1.fc17.remi.i686.rpm

Hello buddy, for the problem that the DVD playing without sound on VLC player, i suggest you to test the VLC with a AC3 audio to see if it can decode it normally, if not, the VLC must lack of the AC3 decoding pack and you will need to search the pack and install it. In addition, you'd better check the volume controls/mute in VLC.

Free tools, I like VLC for playing blu-ray. but I also use UFUSoft Blu-ray Player as an alternative. Which is great for playing blu-ray on my windows 8 pc.
