How can I get Skype on my Fedora 19 64-bit? There's no appropriate package on Microsoft site. I've also tried step by step instructions from if-not-true-then-false.com (sorry, can't post links due to karma) to no avail (all commands are executed fine, shortcuts are created, but Skype just won't run).

How can I use Skype?

Just for reference, this works for me on Fedora 19, x86_64: yum install http://download.skype.com/linux/skype-4.2.0.11-fedora.i586.rpm

I can't suggest none tool here, but here http://www.fedoraforum.org/?view=linux_help, you can find help about third party repos or utilities, and install Skype for 64 bits easy. Sorry

If I recall correctly, the instructions in ifnottruefalse specifies installing skype static package. In my opinion, that is unnecessary.

Just download the rpm from skype website and do yum install as marcindulak has posted in the comments. I have been able to get skype working in this method on multiple systems. Of course, if you start from terminal, you can find if there are problems.

I'm using skype on a Fedora 19 system and it works just fine. Microsoft/Skype do not provide a 64bit rpm so one must install the 32bit rpm and use it. This is what I have installed:

skype-4.2.0.11-fc16.i586

The process to install skype is detailed here already: https://ask.fedoraproject.org/question/8738/skype-on-fedora-18/?answer=16444#post-id-16444. It's really just about clicking the provided rpm as @marcindulak has commented already.

It has worked for most people and should also work for you. If it works for you, please let us know so we can close this question as a duplicate.

If it doesn't, please run skype from the terminal and update your question with the errors that it gives you.

I installed it as you said. but there are some problem and questions.

Problem 1. I download it and then installed as you guys said above yum install skype-4.3.0.37-fedora.i586.rpm which is latest version. 2. I can only run skype as root from terminal and it works perfect. which I dont like. If I run skype with out root privilege then it sign in properly but after few seconds it went close. I dont know what happened. see the output Aborted (core dumped)

Question Is there any way to add skype icon at desktop side bar?

NB ( I am using fedora 19, 64bit system)

On Fedora 64-Bit you need for Skype 32-Bit libs:

sudo yum install alsa-lib.i686 libXv.i686 libXScrnSaver.i686 qt.i686 qt-x11.i686 pulseaudio-libs.i686 pulseaudio-libs-glib2.i686 alsa-plugins-pulseaudio.i686 qtwebkit.i686

Download the package

wget http://download.skype.com/linux/skype-4.2.0.11-fedora.i586.rpm

Then install

yum install skype-4.2.0.11-fedora.i586.rpm

Yum will handle all other dependencies.

I use rpmfusion nonfree :

yum install lpf-skype

and with your user do :

lpf-gui

Note: for Fedora 21 we need lpf on updates-testing of Fedora.

Go to the skype for linux page doing a google search "skype for linux".

Choose in the dropdown your linux version, download your rpm file.

In a terminal, as root, run:

yum install your_skype_rpm_fedora.rpm
