I tried to install a network printer on my fedora 19 system. When I browse a samba printer, I get an error message as below: sudo system-config-printer TypeError: smb_select_function() takes exactly 5 arguments (6 given)

Anyone can help me?

Thanks

Try to install it via CUPS directly. On your browser type localhost:631

My printer is Samsung CLP-315. I tried what you suggested but failed. Anyway, I have installed splix (sudo yum install splix). After that, I can successfully install samba printer. I don't know why though. I can print now!

Thank you FranciscoD and felipevsw. I haven't any problems with printer configurations until I installed Fedora 19 2days ago. I can see my windows printer when I browse samba printer. But as soon as I click the printer, I've got the error message as I said in my first post. Is it due to a bug or something else?

Clearly you won't be able to install it the way you're trying because it is passing more arguments than the function is expecting. So the function doesn't know which one to discard, hence the error. Try the CUPS way as I said, and take a look at the guide Francisco linked.

There is a workaround for this:

  1. Browse to the printer and do not select it
  2. Write "server/queuename" into the input field

I verified this problem on my own system and filed a bug report on Red Hat Bugzilla.

This has been fixed in system-config-printer-1.4.3-1.fc19 which should appear soon in the Fedora repository (it is already available in updates-testing)
