hey,

On Fedora 19, I am getting kernel OOPS regularly. However, ABRT does not allow me to report it, as I have VirtualBox kernel modules, which are not officially supported. So I tried do uninstall them. First, I did "yum remove VirtualBox", but "lsmod" still shows

vboxnetadp 25670 0
vboxnetflt 27613 0
vboxdrv 314732 2 vboxnetadp,vboxnetflt

So I tried rmmod. I can remove them with rmmod, but they re-appear when I restart my system. I want to remove them permanently.

If I do "modprobe -r vboxdrv", I get

modprobe: FATAL: Module vboxdrv not found.

So modprobe can not find the modules, but lsmod lists them. Any ideas what's happening? Is there any other way to remove those kernel modules permanently?

Thanks in advance, alex

Hi!

I have Fedora 20. I am facing a similar problem, not the same although. In my case, the system tells an error while loading and journalctl -xf says that the moduels vboxnetadp vboxnetflt vboxdrv could not be loaded. However, in my case, there is no entry in lsmod nor does it show in modprobe. C

Any help is appreciated!

Hi, please try :

yum remove \*VirtualBox\*

and reboot or :

rmmod vboxnetadp vboxnetflt vboxdrv

since seems be a VirtualBox from rpmfusion please report kernel oops in http://bugzilla.rpmfusion.org/ I need more information :)

Thanks for the quick reply. I already removed VirtualBox, so it says:

sudo yum remove \*VirtualBox\*
Swipe your right index finger across the fingerprint reader
Loaded plugins: auto-update-debuginfo, langpacks, refresh-packagekit
No Match for argument: *VirtualBox*
No Packages marked for removal

The kernel modules are still reported by lsmod.

If I do "rmmod vboxnetadp vboxnetflt vboxdrv", the modules disappear from lsmod, but reappear after reboot.

I'm going to post a bug at rpmfusion, but I need to create an account first and I did not receive the activavation mail

locate vboxnetadp and if remove with rm /usr/lib/modules/3.12.6-300.fc20.x86_64/extra/VirtualBox/vboxnetadp.ko , same for others vboxnetflt vboxdrv, but I'm pretty sure that not came from rpms packages , do you try use others things ? , and yes bugzilla and mailling list of rpmfusion are down since 20 Dec

I created a bug report: https://bugzilla.rpmfusion.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3108. I'll look into the removal of those files tomorrow, thanks for your help.

@campino - try blacklisting the modules at /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf

Almost forgot to tell: The bug reports you linked suggested to turn of Nvidia Optimus in the BIOS. I did it and had no kernel OOPS ever since. Thanks.
