I'm pretty sure that at one stage It was possible to add search domains to your hostname resolution using NetworkManager, in fact here's a screenshot:

But I can't figure out how to do this with Fedora 21.

It appears the ability to do this has been removed from NetworkManager gui but not from NetworkManager itself. The possible ways to fix this are by using the nm-connection-editor gui, or nmcli.

This is the result I was looking for. How is this functionality not considered to be important enough for the gnome shell network configuration applet. Can also confirm that it is still lacking (broken) in gnome shell 3.20

As an alternative to the nm-connection-editor you can edit the corresponding profile-file /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-PROFILENAME and add DOMAIN=example.com.

Ah yes, this seems to be what nm-connection-editor is updating. Thanks for the pointer.

Best way I found to do that is to add a config file on /etc/NetworkManager/dnsmasq.d/

file name could be my-company.conf and the content will be something like:

server=/my-company.com/123.45.67.1

content of the file is like this server=/domain-name/dns server
