LibreOffice odt preview thumbnails won't display

Hello all, first-timer here . . .

I'm running F20 with GNOME and Nemo (and yes, I barely know what I'm doing :)

Some time ago (and this is back when I was using Nautilus) I noticed that older LibreOffice odt files stopped showing preview thumbnails, while newly created odt files did show them. If, when on Nautilus, I changed a non-thumbnail odt's name from, say, "File" to "File0", a thumbnail would generate and stay there, even if I changed the file name back to "File," but it would then revert to the generic document icon after a logout or a reboot. Now that I'm on Nemo, if I try to change the odt file name, the icon changes to the "wait a minute I'm generating a thumbnail" icon (with the little clock on it) and then stays that way, and then (I think) revers to the generic document icon after logout/reboot. I don't have problems with any other files types that normally display preview thumbnails like pdfs, mp4s, etc. So is this an issue with the File Manager, LibreOffice, or something else? And how do I fix it?

P.S. Just tried creating a new odt document with LibreOffice and I just get the generic document thumbnail. Now some odts have thumbnails, some don't.

OK, my wife figured this out: all you have to do is go to .cache/thumbnails/fail/gnome-thumbnail-factory and delete the contents of the folder. Be warned though, I had so many png files in here that adding them to the trash crashed the system. Either delete them in groups or else (I guess) use delete rather than trash to dispose of them.

Ok, the problem has returned, and the above solution does not seem to work. There was an update recently, which I suspect is the cause of the odt thumbnails not displaying properly again. I've been messing around with some other desktop environments, and I noticed that if I use XFCE the odt thumbnails display properly (MATE and Cinnamon get gummy and crash almost immediately, but I think they didn't display the thumbnails either). So perhaps this is a problem with the gnome thumbnailer?
