Serious problems within my HW or known problem?

Hi,

I have noticed lately as I receiving the new and newer kernels randomly my mice cursor and my implemented touchpad (synaptics one) totally freezing out, and inside the /var/log/message file contains huge amount of touchpad timeouts, and something else that I don't know how should I mean it. So, how can I handle this, and set apic to 500? My CPU is AMD MII-320, dual core. The error is:

"[Firmware Bug]: cpu 1, try to use APIC500 (LVT offset 0) for vector 0x400, but the register is already in use for vector 0xf9 on another cpu kernel: [11175.283803] perf: IBS APIC setup failed on cpu #1"

Thanks,

Zoltan

Open a bug report against the kernel.

Really, touchpads should work out of the box, without requiring you to fiddle with anything.

Sure, it's always possible to fiddle with it if you want to (e.g configure its behavior), but if it doesn't work without fiddling, it is a bug.

You say it came with newer kernel updates, so that's the component I'd open the bug against. (and it's probably a good default choice for hardware-related issues when in doubt)

You can also try asking the Fedora kernel hackers on IRC, in #fedora-kernel. They should be able to help you get more debugging information, and eventually fix the problem.

Thanks for the advice, bugzilla #863038 has been created if someone noticing the same, here can follow. Thank you again.

I did more research, and its not a new problem... eg. bug #808008 it's F16 :( Its effects on mostly HP notebooks, as HP 625, or as mine HP Probook 4515s, but I have seen this on Lenovo Thinkpad Edges too. And checked, same result from suspend and wakeup. Also noticed another bug with upowerd.... :(
