As deadrat mentioned, Atom can be used to edit markdown files, although what he did not mention was that Atom can be used to preview markdown files. Atom comes with the markdown-preview package pre-installed, this package allows for the previewing of markdown files. You can install Atom (and keep it up-to-date using DNF / whatever graphical front-end you use for package management) from the mosquito/atom Copr. To add this repo and install Atom from it, run (as root):

dnf copr enable mosquito/atom
dnf install atom

Atom also has an optional package (that is, it does not come pre-installed) called markdown-writer, that adds some extra tools for markdown writing (e.g., it causes Ctrl+b to place ** on each side of any currently-selected text in a markdown file). You can install it by running (as standard, non-root user):

apm install markdown-writer

You can also make git commits in Atom using the git-plus package that comes bundled with Atom. Alternatively, you can run the usual git commands like you would in a terminal embedded into Atom using the terminal-plus package, which you need to install yourself with apm install terminal-plus.

You could also give Dillinger a try, an online tool. Or you can use grip if you want a local preview.

Emacs and Vim highlight the markdown format and it is the simplest way if you have prior experience using them. ( Even if you don't it will be worth learning it. )

But if you prefer GUI based text editors, You can use GEdit and enable this plugin . It highlights the format, but I couldn't get the preview to work.

You could give Atom a try.
