First time to install fedora desktop 16 , when i try to do sw update , it ask me to run yum-complete-transactions , but it has been more than 24 hours and it is still running . Is this normal ? is there a way to restart a fresh sw update ?

Try

sudo yum clean all
sudo yum update

the first command will try to clean up a little bit the last one is the command line equivalent of software update.
