Problem installing new icons (Moka)? Noob...

asked 2016-05-30 06:30:37 +0000

OK. Total noob here. I mean total noob (2+ weeks from install to now).

I wanted to install some different icons and read in multiple places that Moka was liked by a lot of people. After several hours of searhing I was finally able to get them installed (I think). So many pages with bad/outdated instructions.

Finally I downloaded the rpm file, used the Archive Manager to extract that, then Extracted from that . Then I ran the sudo chmod +x ./INSTALL command (I think that was it). After restarting I saw the Moka listed as one of the icon themes under Gnome Tweak Tool (which wasn't listed there before).

So after rebooting I chose that option. I also have Plank installed. And when I rebooted the plank looked great! Then I went to Activities -> Show Applications and clicked on "All" at the bottom. And they all looked great! Me was sooo happy.

But then I clicked Activities -> Files and noticed that all of those icons were the old ones. Not the nice/clean icons from Moka.

I'm including screenshots so you can see both the Files picture and the All pictures (from Activities). Also in that second shot is the Gnome Tweak Took screenshot.

Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Please note that I am a total noob so if you can offer advice/help please make it as easy to understand as possible.

I'm running Fedora 23 through VirtualBox on a Winblows machine.

Thank you.

Hundreds of other Gnome themes and icons here: gnome-look.org

What you need are two (hidden) folders in your home directory:: .icons, .themes. Just copy content there, and activate the themes using Gnome Tweak Tool.

To display hidden files and folders in Nautilus, press CRTL+H.

Somewhat uncool that you have to enable a third--party repository, and use dnf to install themes. To me, that doesn't sound right.
