I just upgrade to kernel 4.5.5-201.fc23.x86_64 on my fedora 23 system which has the nvidia drivers installed (akmod-nvidia). Now, in dmesg I get this message:

[ 11.892062] NVRM: Your system is not currently configured to drive a VGA console
[ 11.892065] NVRM: on the primary VGA device. The NVIDIA Linux graphics driver
[ 11.892066] NVRM: requires the use of a text-mode VGA console. Use of other console
[ 11.892067] NVRM: drivers including, but not limited to, vesafb, may result in
[ 11.892068] NVRM: corruption and stability problems, and is not supported.

and if I try to switch to the console with Ctrl-Alt-F1 it does not work. X restarts and gives me the login screen.

Otherwise the nvidia drivers work.

The dmesg output isn't related.

Ctrl-Alt-F1 is used by the current X session, the first available VT console would be Ctrl-Alt-F2

It looks like "it's a feature, not a bug" :-P. I have the same behavior on 4.4.X. I've found your post while investigating future problems with rpmfusion's nvidia driver. Because of that, I'm always in doubt if I should update to new kernel as ssoon as it hits the repos. I assume in your case, the driver compiled ok?

BTW, try Ctrl+Alt+F3 instead. Your console should be there.

Thanks for the reply. I actually installed akmod-nvidia from rpmfusion. Ctrl+Alt+F3 works. Thanks!
