grub2 - a question

I am using Fedora 17 since a few months, already have some experience with linux OS for several years.

In Grub2 I have seen there are only two entries in the main menu by default.

Someone gave me the hint to remove the submenu entry in /boot/grub2/grub.cfg

But: If I e.g. want to update the configuration with this command:

grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/grub2/grub.cfg

the submenu appears again.

How can I edit the config files - and which config file is it - to have all menu entries on one level for selection - that it is correctly recognized by the grub config functionality?

Thanks,

grub2-mkconfig generates grub.cfg files suitable for most cases, e.g. when upgrading a distribution, and will discover available kernels and attempt to generate menu entries for them.

So it does have some limitations. Instead you might want to edit it by hand or see if some if it's features work for your case. I find the manual helpful, it can be viewed with the info tool, a related section is:

$ info grub2 Configuration Simple\ configuration

I hope this is helpful. The config file btw. is the one you have specified:

/boot/grub2/grub.cfg
