So I was having display issues (No Signal / Black Screen ) when trying to boot the LiveCD so I used nomodeset. I liked Fedora so I did the LiveCD Install to HD option and when I reboot It black screens before I can get to any type of boot options to select nodemodeset.

I can still boot into the LiveCD with Nomodeset, is there any way to edit some config file to boot the Fedora on the hard drive with nomodeset permanently ?

Anyone have any insight on what to do about this?

Have you added nomodeset to the kernel options in /etc/default/grub ?

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="rd.md=0 rd.lvm=0 rd.dm=0 SYSFONT=True rd.luks=0 LANG=es_ES.UTF-8  KEYTABLE=es rhgb quiet nomodeset"

Grub 2 is the latest version of Grub.

If you have installed Fedora 17 but some how grub got messed up and you are unable to boot in to Fedora 17 then follow these steps fix Grub 2 in Fedora 17.

  • Step 1

Boot from the Fedora 17 DVD or Live CD or may be you used USB to install Fedora 17, use any method just boot using any fedora 17 media.

  • Step 2

Select Troubleshoot from the boot menu and then select "Rescue installed system"

  • Step 3

When in Terminal execute these commands.

chroot /mnt/sysimage

change GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX like this :

sudo nano /etc/default/grub

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="rd.md=0 rd.lvm=0 rd.dm=0 SYSFONT=True rd.luks=0 LANG=es_ES.UTF-8  KEYTABLE=es rhgb quiet nomodeset"

and execute this command :

grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/grub2/grub.cfg

Now reboot your pc and Fedora 17 should boot.
