I have just installed F16 on a notebook and all seems to be working fine until I copied some mp3 files over to play some music. When I attempt to import the files into Rhythmbox I get an error which says I need additional plugins. However it does not say what plugins.

Thanks

You can download and use a Fluendo MP3 decoder free of charge from http://www.fluendo.com/shop/product/fluendo-mp3-decoder/

The Fluendo MP3 decoder for GStreamer will add MP3 playback capability to all your GStreamer using applications. The Fluendo MP3 plug-in project is a combination of multiple things.

It is an MIT licensed source code package implementing the MP3 codec. It is a fully licensed binary GStreamer plug-in available for download. It is a redistribution contract allowing distributions to distribute the binary Fluendo GStreamer MP3 plug-in free of charge.

Since you asked why you need it, not how to play MP3s, I'll direct you here:
