I want to use yum via socks proxy. Until now tsocks did job for me. But in Fedora 18 tsocks does not work. I do not know the reason. Is there any alternative for using using yum with socks proxy? Could this be because of firewall blocking the tsocks? I haven't been able to disable dynamic firewall in fed18. Please help.

Problem solved. I use Privoxy (a http proxy server).

Privoxy is capable of using socks5(atleast tor).

So yum talks to privoxy (an http proxy server) which talks to tor(a socks5 proxy) eliminating the need of tsocks.

For configuring Privoxy to use tor, please refer :

you can try this for now,

ssh -D8080 user@hostname

then on another terminal setup the http_proxy variable

export http_proxy=http://127.0.0.1:8080

then run yum from the same terminal window
