I have a 64-bit Windows 10 Professional 20H2 with VirtualBox 6.1.16 and I try to install Fedora 33 Workstation on it. Unfortunately the live installer (Anaconda) gets stuck and then crashes when it’s on the very first window (of choosing language). This is what I see when I try to run it manually from a terminal:
[liveuser@localhost-live applications]$ /usr/bin/liveinst
Starting installer, one moment...
anaconda 33.25.4-1.fc33 for Fedora 33 started.
* installation log files are stored in /tmp during the installation
* shell is available on TTY2 and in second TMUX pane (ctrl+b, then press 2)
* when reporting a bug add logs from /tmp as separate text/plain attachments
Anaconda received signal 11!.

In addition to the official ISO of Fedora 33 I’ve also tried the F33-20201201 respin ISO. But it has similar troubles.
Any help to install Fedora 33?
Why Anaconda crashes?
Verify that VirtualBox supports installing Fedora 33 on a Windows host.
I think it’s better to contact VirtualBox support channels: Community – Oracle VM VirtualBox
The netinstall works now (downloads and installs packages). I’ve passed the step where Anaconda was stuck and crashing. However I experienced several lags during that and further steps. For example when I wanted to change language I waited a few seconds after the click before the language was actually changed. There were a few other lags after that. I suspect those lags relate to my original issue. The netinstall doesn’t boot into a full live system, i.e. it’s lighter.
There’s no problem installing Fedora 33 in KVM/QEMU.
Moreover, many people successfully install it on real hardware.
Thus, your issue should be related to hypervisor/host.
Wait @vgaetera
Since VirtualBox is a widely used hypervisor, if the installation fails, you can agree that a lot of people around the world will not be able to try and use Fedora on their systems.
Indeed, due to this popularity, a Change happened in F28 was the inclusion of VirtualBox guest additions by default on Fedora Workstation (Changes/VirtualBox Guest Integration - Fedora Project Wiki).
So it is in the interest of our community to at least investigate where the problem is. So a bug report on bugzilla is perfectly fine.
I tried several configurations. For example with 4 GB of RAM instead of 8 GB, 2 CPUs instead of 4 CPUs, PIIX3 chipset instead of ICH9. Also tried with several guest CPU feature disabled - PAE, nested VT-x. Also tried to disable the 3D acceleration.
