Delay in viewing the contents inside a directory : Gnome Files

Operating System: Fedora 33

I have noticed that in Gnome Files (Nautilus), occasionally, when I open a directory (usually by double-clicking on the directory), it takes several seconds to display the files and directories within that directory.

Today, I opened a directory and it took 17 seconds to display the files and folders within it !!

Why is this happening and what can be done about it ?

uname output :

 $ uname -a
    Linux localhost.localdomain 5.10.10-200.fc33.x86_64 #1 SMP Sun Jan 24 19:58:54 UTC 2021 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Could be that your hard drive is failing. You can check it by going to Disks.

Hi
Thanks.

I have a 256 GB NVME drive and a 1 TB Mechanical drive.
In the Disks utility, the Assessment for Mechanical HDD partitions show : Disk is OK (36° C / 97° F)

I observed the delay in the partitions for from my mechanical HDD.

For my 256 GB NVME drive, I don’t see an ‘Assessment’ field for partitions.
Screenshots below.
BTW, my laptop is in a dual-boot configuration.
