Fedora 31 + XFCE freezing

Hi!

I’m experiencing some issues on Fedora 31 XFCE. The system has been freezing completely that I have to unplug the powercord to get computer back again. Sometimes a glitch happens in the screen and the window manager freezes or sometimes it freezes when I’m browsing some page like facebook or even another site.

I’m a new user on linux so I kindly ask you for help.

Can your retest it without out-of-tree modules?

I’m sorry but I don’t know how to do that. Could you please tell me how to do that?

I’m confused.
vboxdrv is reported as out of tree, but I’m pretty sure Fedora provides these recently? (circa Fedora 28?)

Anyway i think this is nouveau related.

That’s annoying. I think your best bet is to go into GNOME Software and enable both RPM Fusion repos. Then in Terminal do a ‘dnf search nvidia’ (and seriously take this advice with a grain of salt, I don’t have Nvidia hardware to test). Unfortunately the Nvidia proprietary divert does tend to work better.

It’s helpful, but tedious, to help troubleshoot these problems with upstream.

I’m have no freezes. Please see mine’s:

# now i can paste it with a mouse!

I’m not used to do this myself, but maybe it’ll help:

Hi!

After @vits95 helped me I have finally solved the problem.

$ modprobe -c | grep nouveau
blacklist nouveau
options rd driver.blacklist=nouveau
alias pci:v000010DEd*sv*sd*bc03sc*i* nouveau
alias pci:v000012D2d*sv*sd*bc03sc*i* nouveau

I followed this tutorial below:

Then installed:

sudo dnf install akmod-nvidia

Not even a single freezing so far. Thank you!

I’d a similar experience with the proprietary blob, everything worked for a few weeks. But then it’d stop working. Consider, please, to report a bug against the nouveau driver.
