Fingerprint Sensor not detected/working in HP Envy x360 Convertible 13-ay0xxx

I use fedora 36 workstation. I looked up lifprint — Supported Devices and Bus 001 Device 002: ID 06cb:00e7 Synaptics, Inc. which I suspect is the fingerprint reader isn’t listed there. Is there anything I can do?

If you’re hardware is detected, you should be able to run fprintd-enroll. Unfortunately, fingerprint sensors lacking native Linux driver support is incredibly common.

I guess it’s not.

[InnocentZero@fedora ~]$ fprintd-enroll
Impossible to enroll: GDBus.Error:net.reactivated.Fprint.Error.NoSuchDevice: No devices available

It needs some firmware update Issues · libfprint / libfprint · GitLab
This tries to get any firmware update available for your device in LVFS (so use with caution)

fwupdmgr refresh && fwupdmgr get-updates

For now this reader is marked as unsupported, so probably Synaptics haven’t released the firmware yet - contact them and HP about that firmware update: Unsupported Devices · Wiki · libfprint / wiki · GitLab
