I am on a new Fedora 32 Workstation installation on a Ryzen 7 1700X desktop.
I noticed that the CPU fan is louder than usual and even while mostly idle the fan spins up quite often.
The governor is mode “Ondemand”. The range in which my CPU operates is 2.2 - 3.4GHz.
Checking the CPU frequency shows it’s often significantly above 2.2GHz even though the load is < 10%.
The “up_threshold” of the “Ondemand” governor is still at its default value of 95.
Setting the governor to “Powersave” leads to a constantly low CPU frequency around 2.2GHz and a quiet fan with the system load still being < 10%.
So why does the “Ondemand” governor crank up the clock speeds all the time? Manually adjusting the governor every time I compile a project or play a game seems quite annoying.
