How to know what is in a volume of a hard disk?

A hard disk contains some operating systems and storage. Before removing and installing I want to know which volumes are used by what system. Is some software to look into the system?

You can use Gnome’s File Manager nautilus as a start. When it recognize some mountable partition, we can click on it and see what is inside.

You can also use gnome-disks to see the partitions and there is also easy way to mount it up and inspect.
