I see a black screen on Spotify

Hi, Im new at Fedora and I am loving it but I am having some issues.
The previous days Spotify worked perfectly, but to my surprise today when opening it I only see a black screen, I think I can play songs but I don’t see anything.
I have installed another application to play music called “Headset” and it happens exactly the same but this time the screen is white.
I hope you can help me.

Sure we can and will try to help, but first you have to help your selves with giving us more details.
Which version of Fedora, which desktop etc. inxi -Fzx would help.

I had the same issues as you, I uninstalled the flatpak, reinstalled with no luck. Afterwards I’ve uninstalled it once again and tried out the snap version and it works!

flatpak uninstall spotify
snap install spotify

Hi, thank you for answering.
Finally I decided to uninstall Fedora due to some kernel issues with my AMD. However, I am sure that that would have solved it.

Interestingly enough, few days ago all of my flatpak based apps started having this issue. After startup, there was only black screen.

Instead of abandoning flatpak, what I did was to reinstall whole flatpak with

sudo dnf reinstall flatpak

After which, all started working fine.

I am also having issues with other apps, for example I’m using bitwarden password manager which is a flatpak, and has the same issues as Spotity, they just hang there on a frozen blank white screen.

Thanks for your suggestion, unforturnately it did not solve my issues I am still getting the same behavior.

Shortly after issue reoccurred. Not sure why I thought it was fixed. Common note is that both:

  • Skype
  • Bitwarden
  • Slack

All have this blank/black screen. While for example, Discord, works just fine.

Exact issues as you, Discord works just fine. I gave the bitwarden snap package a go and I thought it was not working, I was greeted with a black screen so I just left it there minimized, came back to it moments later and it was working.

Rather annoying!

I’ve actually managed to make the flatpaks work now, I’ve disabled a few extensions like “dash to dock”, that could very well be the culprit since it’s unofficial and is a fork off github. Everything seems to be working just fine now.

Will you inform the owner of the extension, too see if he made the necessary adjustments for Gnome 40 ?
