I’m having some weird issues with my Fedora install. I reinstalled 34 yesterday from a piece of older boot media that I had laying around, and that kernel (5.11.12-300.fc34.x86_64) boots perfectly. On newer kernels, including kernel-5.13.10-200.fc34.x86_64 which came out yesterday I believe, Fedora doesn’t boot.
Whenever I reboot or boot from a powered off state, selecting a newer kernel from the GRUB menu results in a black screen with white static-like lines streaking across the screen. Interestingly, when I first I installed 5.13.10 and 5.13.9, I could get past that black screen by holding the power button, which I think made the computer hibernate, and then when I resumed I would be greeted by my login window. After I unhid the GRUB menu, that is no longer the case.
I suspect this is somehow related to my GPU: NVIDIA Corporation GA104M [GeForce RTX 3070 Mobile / Max-Q] (rev a1)
I am using the Nouveau drivers because I believed that installing the NVIDIA drivers actually caused this issue initially, and that’s what caused me to reinstall in the first place. Now I’m not so sure obviously.
The other issue I’m having is that reinstalling Fedora wiped out my Windows MBR. I tried rebuilding grub to recognize it but ended up hosing grub somehow (new file didn’t get written) so I had to recover from that situation and restore the original grub file after I manually booted. Any help on that would be appreciated as well.
