I tried booting Fedora 33 on my old Allwinner Pinebook, and it certainly boots, but the very first thing I noticed was that Gnome didn’t know anything about its wifi. Does anyone know where to start looking into that? I know other distros support wifi on the Pinebook.

you don’t provide enough information to detect your issue, the first things you need is to know the chipset, to do it you should provide the information of the follow commands:
lsusb :Information on USB devices
lspci :Information on PCI devices
uname -a :Current running kernel
rfkill list

I think a good start would be
" Fedora 30 on Pinebook " point 2 seems to be a known issue with the internal WIFI
Did you make some researches already there in the pine64 community? If yes would be nice to know more about it.
Bringing opensource hardware together with opensource software makes sens for me …
