Screen and Keyboard Issues

Hello everyone, I have a newer laptop that I installed Fedora 36 on yesterday. I was having issues with the screen when using the touchpad and the keyboard doesn’t work. The touchscreen allowed me to get through the install but I didn’t realize the keyboard wasn’t working until I booted into the new install. I attempted live images of 34 and 35 as well with the same result. When I boot the live image with basic graphics, the screen works as normal, but the touchscreen and keyboard do not.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Update: Just tried Debian 11 as well. Keyboard and touchpad stop working once I get to the select a language page.

I have a working touchscreen in my Lenovo P14. You’re going to be more likely to have better luck with a newer kernel (ie, 36 than 35). If you’ve already installed it, please update your system and reboot to get the latest kernel. If not, you can try a respin.

Based on the lenovo forum post referenced below, you would want to update the kernel arguments. If you can access the installation with a keyboard you can update utilizing grubby.
sudo grubby --args="i915.enable_psr=0 i8042.direct i8042.dumbkbd" --update-kernel=ALL

This can also be done temporarily from the grub menu following the instructions here

I was able to run an update then ran this command and rebooted and that did the trick with both the screen and keyboard. Thanks!

I have a somewhat related followup issue. If I should create a new thread, please let me know.

My down arrow is acting as a toggle for the touchpad on/off. Checked Fn and FnLock. It doesn’t toggle the touchpad with Fn pressed, but it doesn’t work as the down arrow either. Also checked keyboard shortcuts and didn’t see anything.

Thanks
