Touchpad right (secondary) button not recognized

Hello. I have a HP pavilion laptop. Since I installed Fedora 31 Workstation, from scratch (default installation, then installation of a few applications), the touchpad works as if there were only a unique button: the primary one. Just before that, with Fedora 29 (or 30? I’m not sure.), the 2 buttons used to work. This laptop has had keyboard difficulties (Sometimes some keys don’t work for a while, and seem to work when the laptop is warm.) and I don’t use it very often, so I’m not sure the difficulty comes from Fedora 31. But I had never noticed any problem with the touchpad before the installation of Fedora 31, and now the right button never works (well, it works, but as if it were the left one). Any idea?

Hi.  If this seems related: something about “IRQ” (Ask Fedora)?

Could you please attach the results of the following cmds:

dmesg
lspci -vvv
uname -a
cat /proc/interrupts

Thanks

Hi.  IDK, but seems similar: the gaming mouse buttnos aren’t work.  Try to blacklist psmouse driver (temporarily is better).

Thanks. I first launched “dnf update”, then I noticed that not only the right button was not working, but I couldn’t drag any more. Then I did what is described on the page you gave me the hyperlink to: I can drag again, but the touchpad right button still works as if it were the left one…

You said that sometimes the keyboard has problems, now the mouse button has problems, and that the laptop is old? and seldom used. The problem may be or likely is failing hardware or oxidizing intermittent connections on the ribbon cables that attach devices to the motherboard inside the computer. Bad connections can be easily cleaned and restored with simple service.

To test that theory you can open the settings panel and then under devices > mouse & touchpad there is an option to test the functions.

Other than service, another possible option if the hardware is failing might be to purchase a logitek mouse and keyboard with the USB unified receiver and simply replace the built-ins with add-on devices. AFAIK almost all laptops built in the last several years will flawlessly use a usb keyboard & mouse.
