I’m trying to use the transflag in my read but for some reason the emoji renders for a second before disappearing and becoming transgender_flag. does anyone know how to fix this? I’ve tried changing the font in firefox to a few things including twemoji mozilla nothing seems to fix it
Hi! What is the difference between the trans flag and the transgender flag?
You are talking about two flags, not a symbol, right?
I am referring to the transgender flag as the trans flag. The flag is not render instead the text transgender_flag is displayed. As shown here
I’m not sure why.
this is here on ask.fedora?
no its on github. on some websites firefox is able to render everything correctly but on some like github it does not.
and chromium does?
not sure. I’ll check and confirm
This is how I see it on Win10 with FF 91.0.2 (64-Bit):
It’s a flag, just not the right one…
And, this is how I see it in an up-to-date Fedora 34, FF from repo:
Yeh, if I use the gnome input method for emojis, I get this: but if I use
:transgender_flag: I get this correctly: .
I don’t know if this is up to the browser or to the website to render these correctly, though. I was under the impression that websites implement emoji support using some library or another.
Edit: I just noticed that even though the bits look wrong in the compose window here, in the post the unicode does render correctly. Here’s what it looks like in the compose window:
any ideas how to fix the unicode issues? I’m really not sure why it doesn’t work out of the box. on this page the flags render correctly, but github doesn’t
I think it’s a github issue
Yeh, I think GitHub have a bug somewhere in how they render emojis. Not sure where one should discuss this—I think GitHub have a community forum too somewhere.
I asked on the GitHub community forum. It looks like it is an issue on githubs side Trans flag not rendering properly - #2 by airtower-luna - How to use Git and GitHub - GitHub Support Community
I think the issue has been detected already, see [github-website] [ui] missing (404) some emojis in the status picker - GitHub Help - GitHub Support Community
The reason why some still see the flag is because the operating system puts a system emoji…
