Upgrade to Fedora 33 from 32 fails

I am trying to upgrade to Fedora 33 from 32, but it is failing. I have done the following:

sudo dnf upgrade --refresh
sudo dnf install dnf-plugin-system-upgrade
sudo dnf system-upgrade download --releasever==33

The last command fails with the following:

Before you continue ensure that your system is fully upgraded by running "dnf --refresh upgrade". Do you want to continue [y/N]: y

I have looked for the issue and can’t find anything that matches this situation and my upgrade path 32 → 33 I also can’t find any guidance that makes sense to me. Can anyone provide me any assistance as to what is going on and how I can remedy this? I get the same error if I try to go to release 34 as well.

I also did a sudo dnf clean all to no effect.

I discovered my problem, the double = on the releasever was the issue.

Hey there:

:link: Maintenance Schedule

We say maintained for approximately 13 months because the supported period for releases is dependent on the date the release under development goes final. As a result, Release X is supported until one month (4 weeks) after the release of Release X+2 .

  • Fedora 33 will be maintained until four weeks after the release of Fedora 35.

Fedora Linux 35 Schedule: Key

Fedora Linux 33 EOL auto closure Tue 2021-11-16.

That’s interesting. So is would be possible to run Fedora 33, which is probably a bit more stable and has some features like Btrfs- support until November, right?

That is about right. There are no further updates after the EOL date.

In any case, that’s very important, make backups of your data before using a system under development. I currently have 2 backup sets, since, as it sometimes happens, I recently deleted my backup by mistake.
